American Prayer

“As an Englishman, I’m not an expert in all the intricate details of American politics. But as an artist, I understand how rare it is to inspire a connection to a bigger idea or purpose. This video isn’t so much an endorsement of Barack Obama as much as it is a celebration of all those who have picked up a sign, who have registered to vote and are working to make the world a better place. So as Senator Barack Obama ascends to the mountain top, let us not forget all of the others who for the past 40 years have sung anthems of change to make this moment possible.”
I received a post on my “myspace” from one of my favorite music artists asking me to check out a video they had an opportunity to be in. After doing so, I was disappointed to say the least. As much as the writer of the song wants to say
“This video isn’t so much an endorsement of Barack Obama as much as it is a celebration of all those who have picked up a sign, who have registered to vote and are working to make the world a better place”,
that’s exactly what it is. Show me anywhere in the video that this video or song promotes John McCain!
I guess what really kills me is people really think that Barack Obama can turn this country around like he is some kinda of God. Man cannot do this. A president cannot do this. For one, only God can do that. And two, it takes and act of MANY people to make decisions and create laws on Capitol Hill in order to change things.
What has this man done to prove that he can do these things? He has spent one term as a Senator and missed many crucial votes and people really think this guy is God! I’m just not getting it folks. Let me also say that I am not really for John McCain either so don’t bash me for bashing Obama. But at this time I’m not voting for someone. I’m voting against someone. That would be Barack. Because I can’t find faith in him. I can’t find hope in him. I can’t believe in him like everyone wants to. I can’t and I won’t because it’s not there. My faith and hope and belief lives and remains in Jesus Christ.
Which begs the question. Since when did it become an American prayer? And since when did any of those in the video bear fruit that we may all see they are living a life devoted to Christ, the ONE who they are supposedly praying to? Wait. Maybe they aren’t praying to Him. Well, that goes without saying their prayers will surely be unheard. And then again, I believe it does say in John 9:31 that
We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he does listen to anyone who worships him and does his will.
Show me you faith without deeds and I will show you my faith by what I do.(James2:18) What are these celebrities doing for Christ. Yeah, I didn’t think so either. Which leads me to believe who is this American Prayer being prayed to? All gods that might listen. Yeah I believe Paul had something to say about that in Acts.
And to put a topping on this cake, the co-writer along with Bono is an ENGLISHMAN. What is he doing getting involved with American affairs? Hey englishman, how about grabbing a relationship with Jesus Christ and inspire a connection to Him. He surely has a bigger idea and purpose.
Y’know, I wished celebrities and artists would simply quit using their platform for agendas other than their music. PLEASE!!!!!!!
And to say lastly, THE SONG SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Celebrities are sickos. I can’t believe that they are so cocky to think that we actually care what they think?! I used to be a huge fan of movies, but I rarely watch them anymore. I can’t separate the movie from the (for the most part) liberal actors in the movie. Most celebrities make my stomach turn. They are so miserable with their lives…why would we put them on a pedestal?? And Bono and the other foreigners need to stay out of our politics! Good grief.
Did you hear that the “Messiah” will have TV time before Game 6 of the World Series? I can’t believe the media is liberal enough to let Hussein Obama delay the World Series. That is just un-American!!

I was so confused on the whole voting thing. At first I was anti-Obama. Most of his voters were, and I’m sorry if you disagree, voting for him just because he is black. And for me that’s the same as racism.
But then I was faced with the harsh reality that well… I _am_ tired of old white men in the seat… As a scientist, one of the big no-nos is trying the same method again and again while expecting different results. I also felt that had Obama lost, it would be a long time before people would risk their vote on a minority again, which I don’t know if it’s a good thing. I was still 50/50 until they picked their vice presidents. A VP for me needs to be someone who can be seen as a president. This is even more true when taken into account Mccain’s age. And while I think Palin would make a good VP, I could not see her as a president. I also didn’t like how much of a backseat Mccain allowed himself to become to Palin, and Obama’s politics.
But in the end the thing that convinced me really to vote Obama was, and I know how little it sounds, McCain’s age. Someone that old will very unlikely have anything in mind for someone under 30, or even around that age. And while I respect him trying to help the elderly and veterans and such, I had to be selfish and think about myself. A young teacher. I believe someone can review their core values, but he was just born in an era far too different than ours.
But I definitely don’t think Obama is much better. In fact this was the first time voting where I thought choice B wouldn’t be much of a loss for either side. And I don’t see all the liberal things as Anti-Christian. Something is only a sin or a virtue if you have a choice to commit the sin. If I tie you up in a basement, where you can’t talk or anything, does it make you any less of a sinner? Having laws to prohibit things we hold as sins is not necessarily a good thing. It’s only when you have a choice to either commit the sin, or not, that your integrity is weighed. If we outlaw abortion, homosexuality, other religions, add Christianity in schools, outlaw other religious books; if the people have no choice but to obey, does that make them holy? If they are forced into becoming Christian, are they Christian at all? Is it possible to create a country where all the rules of the bible are enforced, and people HAVE to do everything like the bible says, and the country becomes this sort of tunnel. Person is born, does everything like bible, goes to heaven. Rinse and repeat? No. Even God said that the person who risks something to worship, or knows the weight of their decision, is a lot more than the blindly faithful who pray from a safe distance, and don’t know they have a choice.
What man allows, and prohibits in their laws is up to them, and of their concern. If they outlaw the reading of the bible, we would still read. Just as if they legalize murder, we still wouldn’t kill. We don’t need to shape their rules as ours, only to ultimately follow our own and try to show them the wisdom in ours. Not force them to see, but help them _choose_ their actions.

Saph, I believe this is the most I’ve ever seen anyone respond to my postings.
I see where you are coming from on the reasons of why you voted and they are legit. I can’t argue because they are opinions and not facts. I didn’t want to vote for wither one of them, so I took on a different stance. One that I got from no one but my own feelings. Some may have used the same stance but I didn’t jump on any bandwagon.
The stance that I took was to vote against rather that vote for someone. So I vote against Obama. For one main reason with other little reasons thrown in the mix. I am totally against socialism. That’s not right to me. You don’t take a man’s hard earned money and redistribute it to others of less fortunate. Not right.
Besides, I really like Sarah Palin. Yeah she was good lookin and all, but I thought she was smart, spoke straight and not around things, and told it like it was. She was bipartisan, meaning she didn’t just stand on her own party lines. If the republicans were wrong, she told them, and she turned around alot of stuff in Alaska.
It was mainly his economic views that turned me off of him, and his foreign policy was a joke.

I agree with most things you said. I just felt I was voting for either Palin or Obama. And then it hit me that Palin’s just the VP and it shouldn’t even remotely feel that way. I didn’t want another president that would fade into the background.
And I just took it upon myself to reads most of your blogs and respond =) I actually stopped at 2 for now so I don’t hog the space!
It’s a rarity to find someone who like me holds firm to their beliefs, but is neither pushy on their views, or rude when they disagree. In the end it makes us both better and understand a little bit more by talking even if we don’t agree sometimes.

I think the proper phrase would be to agree to disagree. Thanks for hanging out at my little spot on the web. I really appreciate it. I’ve been busy the last couple of days so I apologize for my non-swiftness on my replies.
