Today was full. Not necessarily with folks. Full of the Spirit overflowing in me for sure. I got to church an hour early and began to pray over EVERYTHING. I laid hands on the chairs, the instruments, the sound booth, the kid’s rooms. I cried. I wept. I prayed for a movement of God. There’s a group of chairs that sit in the corner waiting to be brought out. I prayed that those “dead bones” would rise, that God would bring people to fill those chairs. He didn’t… today!
All Because Of Jesus – This song rocks. The band does a great job playing it.
Announcements – I know I don’t normally put the fact we do announcements here but I must say, I am so silly. I can’t ever get the welcome right and I always say “green card” because our visitor cards are green. One day, I’m gonna be the best welcome guy EVER!!!!
For Your Glory – I’m still trying to get a barometer reading on the church with this song. What I will say and I’ll elaborate more later is I had the opportunity to teach the youth about worship this morning and this song came up and they knew the lyrics and liked the song. That blessed my heart! So I know some folks like the song.
Indescribable – I’ve been asked if there was only one song I could take with me if I was deserted on an island, what would it be. THIS ONE! I love this song and can never stop singing it.
God You Reign – This is a new song for the church today. I didn’t set it up which is not normal. I just went into it. Can I say something with a huge bucket of pride. I honestly think the band pulled this song off sooooo good that I couldn’t tell if someone punched play on iTunes or it was us playing. It sounded so good. I’m so proud of our musicians. Great job guys.
Reign In Me – I played this song for years in other churches and never really thought it would go well at Xtreme. I think I’m wrong. The church sings well and looks to be engaging this song well.
Today Pastor Carlo taught on one of my favorite Scriptures, Colossians 1:15-23, the image of the invisible God. I didn’t get a chance to listen to the sermon because I was invited by the youth leaders, Thomas and Heather Myers to speak to the youth about worship. I was so honored to be able to do that. I lost a little sleep because I was nervous.
I spoke to them on an article Bob Kauflin wrote on the Desiring God website; The Three “R’s” of Why Christians Sing. I added a little more to it and taught on other ways we respond in worship to such a great God. Singing helps us Respond, Remember, and Reflect. We probably got a little rowdy because one of the ways we respond to God is by shouting. And shouting we did. They heard us through the whole church and we even made Pastor pause in his sermon, so I’m told. As a former youth leader I can tell you, youth group is no fun unless it involves some kind of rowdiness and craziness.
After church, Thomas and I worked on finishing up the sound booth. For the first time in the history of Xtreme, we have a real sound booth IN FRONT of the speakers. I’m really excited about this.
The slideshow features a few things that happened today. Hope you enjoy.
