  • I Exalt Thee

I didn’t lead worship today. My wife’s birthday was yesterday so our original plans were to be out of town. We decided to not stay out of town and for the first time in I don’t know how long, we went to church in one car as a family. It felt great to just show up and worship. What really felt great was God has blessed me with a team where I can come to church when we have a guest Worship Leader and I don’t have to do anything.

Our guest worship leader was Aaron Long. I wished you could see the heart of Aaron as he leads. He brings it and knows how to help folks get into that zone of clearing out the world and recognizing God in the place.Typically I won’t let a guest WL lead songs that our church doesn’t know. The original list had no songs the church knew. One song got changed and they did I Exalt Thee. That’s one’s pretty popular.

We don’t do “Like A Lion”. I know that may come as a surprise but I’m not a worship leader who does songs because everyone else is doing it or because it’s “hot” or it’s on the top 25 CCLI. I have a strict criteria of why I let songs get on our master list. I wrote here how I build a set list and spoke a little on the subject of song selection. There’s probably a number of popular songs we don’t  do and have no plans to do unless God changes it because of reasons such as theologically unsound, confusing lyrics, crazy musical arrangement, etc. I think “Like a Lion” may make another sho as well as “Beautiful King”. That’s a great song by Jonathan Lee.

Worship was great today and I really appreciate having the day off and just being able to come and worship. I look forward to getting back with my team, assesing some New Year’s goals and working hard to make this year an amazing year of Xtreme Worship. We have some plans for quarterly worship events called Encounter Worship as well as having a month of messages on Worship in May. 2012 is going to be awesome!
