The Battlefield

There’s a little known secret when it comes to being faithful and doing the work of God. Most people don’t know about this little secret. Most people don’t rely on this secret. It’s a secret that only those who are close to God know. It’s been revealed  only to those  who worship God. This little secret is the answer to our being a “successful” Christian; one who finds the strength to make it through the hard stuff in life, one who wonders about watching prayers being answered, one who is fully reliable on God to be GOD.

  • David told us of this little secret when he faced the giant Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:46-47

This day the LORD will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the LORD does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the LORD’S and He will give you into our hands.”

  • Paul told us of this little secret as he approached the idea of putting on our spiritual armor. Ephesians 6:12-13

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Did you catch it? Did you find the secret to all your troubles? Let me give you a hint.

A) there’s a battle

B) You need armor

Here’s the secret. We are in a fight, a spiritual fight. Unfortunately we were born into this fight. Fortunately we have someone we can rely on that is stronger than creation and mightier than anything imagined. That battle is a spiritual battle and we have the benefit of God’s armor as well as the battle we fight isn’t even our battle. Imagine if you will…

Armies have been gathered. One evil, one good. The evil ones line up at the edge of the battle field grunting and snorting ready to find any weakness to manipulate. The good army lines up ready to battle yet one man walks to the edge as if it was David himself. He stands there and gives himself as the evil army mauls him.

After they have dined on this one, they are ready to move forward toward the good army whom seem to be shaking in fear at what they have just witnessed. A few go forward only to martyred yet in mere moments the first rises. The evil army stands in awe and fear at the scene of watching the risen one alive.

He motions towards the Heavens and from the clouds floods an army of angels ready to battle. They swing down in a violent swoop before the good army is devoured in their boots. In mere moments, the evil army is wiped from the battle field leaving the One who had risen and the army decked in the armor standing strong having not raised a single hand yet victorious of the evil army.

This is life!

If you are a child of God, you are part of the good army. The battle although you are ready to fight has been won before you and all you have to do is sit at the victory table with trophy in hand. Because of your gratefulness, soon you will hand over the trophy, the crown, to the One who is worthy and he allows you to continue to be part of his kingdom forever. You are victorious because of Him.

The secret: To allow Jesus to fight. You take up your armor. You stand ready to fight because the Evil one wants you. You’re easy prey but Jesus will fight for you and you will reign victorious through Him with Him. Allow yourself to stand on the battlefield with faith and hope that God with win the battle!
